Her Testimony
Mother Bonite Affriany is too humble to give her own testimony, so we will do it for her.
She was born in Haiti, 66 years ago, came to Brooklyn, NY and worked hard to become an RN. One day, while raising two children, she came across a small, unknown, spirit-filled church on Flatbush Avenue in Brooklyn. It was a non-denomination church whose pastor is a man who never attended seminary school. His wife, who lead the choir, could not read music. Bonite’s life was filled with raising her children, working as a full-time nurse and spending the rest of her time growing in the Lord at this church. As time went on, this church became known as The Brooklyn Tabernacle. It’s choir has gone on to win six Grammy Awards.
Mercy is love without bounds
Sister Bonite’s love for the Lord grew stronger and stronger. In 2003, she felt the Lord call her to go back to her home town of Jacmel in Haiti. Without knowing what she was to do there, having no training in mission work, she trusted God and followed the call. With social security checks in hand, she went back home. She started feeding twelve children under a mango tree. Soon the numbers grew. She continued to see how great the need was. Soon, through the grace of God, neighbors and friends began sending whatever money they could. She, who had never preached a day in her life, began to reach out and bring people to God. A church grew and the need grew even bigger. She returned to the states and re-financed her home. Upon her arrival back to Haiti, she purchased a plot of land. The Lord dreams bigger than we can possibly ever dream. When the Lord calls, and when we listen, everything begins to change. She is currently feeding, clothing and educating 80 children. Local helpers became educators. God lead her to see the needs of the elderly as well. Homes for the elderly living in extreme poverty are being built. Through the obedience of one woman listening to God’s call, a town is being transformed. She never thought to ask for help. Soon her home church learned of how God was using Bonite Affriany and began to send whatever support they are able to send to her.
God’s grace rest upon this beautiful woman who has come to be known as Mother Bonite. Her days are long and her challenges are plentiful, yet you can hear her sweet voice praising the Lord in love and laughter. Can you imagine unmarried couples that have been living together getting married, so they can be baptized and begin their walk with Jesus? God is so Good! - A Volunteer
